Rong Guang BBQ Seafood, Ulu Pandan

Standalone Restaurant and Famous for its BBQ food...

Last night, we went Rong Guang BBQ Seafood at Ulu Pandan outlet for dinner with parents.

The restaurant has both alfresco and indoor dining area. Initially, we were seated at the opened area until it suddenly rained cats and dogs, we moved into the indoor dining area.

This is their menu with 23 items only. In fact, they have more food items which were not listed in this menu, so do remember to ask them.

We were served with some vegetable crackers as appetizer. It was crispy but slightly oily.

Our orders for the night:

1. Stir Fried Spinach with Garlic 菠菜炒大蒜 – 5/10
The vegetables were quite salty though the spinach was fresh.

2. Prawn Scroll 虾枣 – 7/10
This was commonly known as deep fried prawn roll or Chinese prawn roll. The main fillings of the prawn roll were a mixture of minced pork, prawn, water chestnut, etc. It was served with sweet sauce for dipping. Mama like it very much and commented the taste was nice. Somehow, I feel as if yam was included in the fillings too. The prawn roll was nice – not too oily nor too dry.

3. Deep Fried Baby Squids 香炒苏东仔 – 6/10
This was a bit too tough for my two elderly parents rather than crispy.

4. Rong Guang Chilli Crab 荣光炒螃蟹 – 6/10
The crab flesh was solid but the shell was much harder than most of the restaurant I went to. The chilli crab gravy was slightly sour, not spicy and not sweet enough.

5. Steamed Mantou 馒头 – 7/10
The steamed bun was soft and fluffy.

6. Sambal Sting Ray 三峇方鱼 – 7/10
The sambal was spicy and shiok.

Look at the flesh of the Sting Ray which was very fresh.

The total bill amounted to $90.52. I will try their other items next time.

Overall verdict: 6.3/10
